[Commonplace book] [ca. 1625-1630?]

Seventeenth century commonplace book containing poems, accounts, and agricultural notes. The majority of the items consist of poems mostly by relatively minor 16th- and 17th-cenutry English poets and include "Farewell ye gilded follyes," which has been attributed variously; "The soules wish" by Josuah Sylvester; Arthur Warwick's poem beginning "A bubble broke, its air looseth;" and "A motto upon the creede" by Sir Thomas Wroth. Other text includes some very brief accounts and scribbles as well as excerpts from "Arnold's Chronicle" on the "Craft of gryffing and planting of trees." The book apparently belonged to a John Fabian, who inscribed the end flyleaf, though the name Thomas Rolf also appears below this inscription. Fabian's identity is unknown, though there were two contemporary graduates of Oxford and Cambridge by that name.

32 leaves, bound ; 8 cm x 6 cm.
